Happy New Year!!!!! 2007

Hope all your dreams, resolutions, wishes, or whatever it is you want for 2007 comes true for you. A very happy and healthy new year to my blogging buddies!!!!

Attainable New Year's Resolutions

This year, I resolve to...

- Gain weight. At least 30 pounds.
- Stop exercising. Waste of time.
- Read less. Makes you think.
- Watch more TV. I've been missing some good stuff.
- Procrastinate more. Starting tomorrow.
- Spend more time at work, surfing the internet.
- Take a vacation to someplace important: like, to see the largest ball of twine.
- Not jump off a cliff just because everyone else did.
- Stop bringing lunch from home: I should eat out more.
- Not have eight children at once.
- Get in a whole NEW rut!
- Start being superstitious.
- Personal goal: bring back disco.
- Buy an '83 VW Beetle and invest in a stereo system.
- Get the windows tinted.
- Speak in a monotone voice and only use monosyllabicwords.
- Only wear jeans that are 2 sizes too small and use a chain or rope for a belt.
- Spend my summer vacation in Cyberspace.
- Not eat cloned meat.
- Create loose ends.
- Get more shoes.
- Get further in debt.
- Not believe politicians.
- Not drive a motorized vehicle across thin ice.
- Avoid transmission of inter-species diseases.
- Avoid airplanes that spontaneously drop 1000 feet.
- Stay off the International Space Station.
- Not swim with pirhanas or sharks.
- Associate with even worse business clients.
- Spread out priorities beyond my ability to keep track of them.
- Wait around for opportunity.
- Focus on the faults of others.
- Mope about my faults.
- Never make New Year's resolutions again.

George Foreman's Hot

I cooked my George Foreman grill. That's right, cooked it. Almost cooked the house too.

It started out innocently enough. I used this grill all the time. The problem was that I didn't have enough counter space for what I was doing at the time so I used the stove top to place the grill on. (It's flat! was one of those nice electric top stoves). I was going to boil some rice along with the grilled vegetables I was making. So I got the pot out and filled it with water, placed it on the OTHER burner and turned on the stove.

Went into the living room to watch the news. All of a sudden I heard this cracking, sizzling type sound and thought..hmmm...vegetables aren't suppose to sizzle like that nor are they supposed to smell like burning plastic!!! Yikes! I ran into the kitchen only to observe that the George Foremen grill was up in flames! I pulled the plug out...grabbed my oven mitts, and threw it out the side door. Was lucky!

The whole house stunk to high heaven like burning plastic. Turned on the attic fan and had to vacate the house for about 4 hours.

I have never replaced my George Foremen grill, may it rest it peace.

Half Full

As I slowly get back into the work week after enjoying a wonderful holiday, my thoughts sadden and return to a simpler time when my family was whole. My brother passed away two years ago(much too young), my Dad passed on in December (a long time ago but I miss him a lot still) and my Mom is in a nursing home. I'm separated from my husband but we're still very good friends...he's a good man. I have wonderful friends and a great support system for times like these.
Although the holiday was wonderful, I get all sorts of happy and sad at this time of year, so if my posts sound like a mad woman or Sybilish...bear with me for now. I always have a mini breakdown after the holidays. It's a renewal time, if you will, and will pass quickly. I'll be back to my old devlilish self in a few days.

I just want to share with you a quote which reflects my feelings now, from my "Each Day A New Beginning" book that I read on a daily basis...The December 28th passage is:

"The human heart dares not stay away too long from that which hurt it most. There is a return journey to anguish that few of us are released from making."
- Lillian Smith

"As the sore tooth draws our tongue, so do rejection, affronts and painful criticisms, both past and present, draw our minds. We court self-pity, both loving and hating it. But we can change this pattern. First we must decide we are ready to do so. But first we must become "entirely ready". And then we must ask to have this shortcoming removed.

The desire to dwell on the injustices of our lives becomes habitual. It takes hours of our time. It influences our perceptions of all other experiences. We have to be willing to replace that time-consuming activity with one that's good and healthy.

We must be prepared for all of life to change. Our overriding self-pity has so tarnished our perceptions that we may never have sensed all the good that life daily offers. How often we see the glass as half-empty rather than half-full."

Hurray for change....and I wish all of you an upcoming year of "half-full" glass days!

Peace!

Oh Well

In a Past Life...
You Were: A Greasy Poet.
Where You Lived: Australia.
How You Died: Consumption.
Who Were You In a Past Life?

As the year winds down and my thoughts turn to reflections of the past year and what lies ahead for the new year...........my mind goes blank.......sometimes I just don't want to look. I'm also thinking that I don't want to blog anymore too. Hopefully this feeling will past. It's just that I have so much to do and don't want to tackle the jobs I have waiting. I just want to go on vacation or retire...;-) , particularly after finding out I was a "greasy poet" in my last life....I can understand being a poet, of course, but greasy? Was it because I had greasy hair? did I eat grease? did I not bathe? I wonder. Dying from consumption I believe meant TB. The only good thing about that was living in Australia...however, wasn't that a penal colony once upon a time? See I can't win today! So I'll take that I was a poet and leave it at that!

Done, Again!

Lights out, music off, memories made.

Pounds gained, presents unwrapped, visitors gone.

Was merry and nostalgic.

Wishing for days gone by and for people no longer here.

Yet still enjoying the here and now.

Confusing yet loving.

Mindfully chaotic, yet outwardly peaceful.

Psycho christmas? Maybe.

Unforgettable? No!

Merry Christmas to All

Merry Christmas All.......Today is the best Funday of the year......I promise I won't be complaining because it's Monday! Not only is it Funday, it's a day I get to spend with those I love. It's a peaceful day for me this year. A day to reflect on everything I have, rather than on what I don't. I wish you all a day filled with love and I hope Santa was good to you!

Peace

Today...I wish you a day of ordinary miracles-
A fresh pot of coffee you didn't have to make yourself.

An unexpected phone call from an old friend.

Green stoplights on your way to work or shop.

I wish you a day of little things to rejoice in...

The fastest line at the grocery store.
A good sing along song on the radio.
Your keys right where you look.
I wish you a day of happiness and perfection-little bite-size pieces of perfection that give you the funny feeling that an angel is smiling on you, holding you so gently because you are someone special and rare.

I wish You a day of Peace, Happiness and Joy.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them.
This is just a short message to let you know how much I appreciate you all.
Take some time and send a similiar message to people who you'll never forget.

Don't forget!
Take the time!

Pugs and Planes

The dog made me late for work today. Yes he did.
I walk my dog early, like at 5:00 AM. I usually take him for a long walk. It wakes me up and it's a quiet time to be out. My neighborhood is usually safe so I don't have any fears of pscho killers lurking. But I do live near some airports. Although no planes fly directly overhead, I can see them taking off and landing in the distance and when its cloudy out I hear the engines faintly. However, my dog must hear them loudly! Since it's the holidays I assume there's more "plane traffic" at the wee hours of the morning because there were quite a number of planes I saw landing this morning. As my dog is going about his business, sniffing every square inch of dirt and left over grass....and when a plane flies over he lifts his head...perks up his ears...looks up into the sky and just stares in a trance until the noise is gone. I wish I had a camera! He only did this about five times this morning....looked like he was on some good drugs when he got that look on his lil smushed in face. I don't have the heart to hurry him up so I stood there like a dope waiting with him. And that, boss, is why I'm late for work!

Christmas Favorite Meme

Shadow Falcon was err, kind enough to tag me with this one...and Yeah I usually do them when someone tags me...So here goes:

1. Hot Chocolate or Egg Nog? I'm one of those people who love egg nog, in spite of the cartoon I posted about it's origins ;-)

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? He definitely wraps mine....and does a nice job, to boot!

3.Colored lights on tree/house or white? White lights.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? No, but I carry it around with me just in case..hehe.

5. When do you put your decorations up? Usually when the spirit hits me, which is about two weeks before Christmas. I can't put them up too early if my heart's not in it.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? Believe it or not, lagsagna.

7. Favorite Holiday memory? The Christmas when my brother and I got electric trains to put under the tree from my Dad. We had the whole village...the fun part was taking tinsel from the tree and putting it on the tracks...it used to sizzle and cause train wrecks...(what can I say, I had an older brother who put me up to these tricks). lol.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? When my brother (again) showed me my Dad putting together our bikes on Christmas Eve.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Yes...

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? White lights, Waterford crystal ornaments (I've been collecting them over the years), red bows, and a few sentimental ornaments from long ago stuck in there too.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? Love it, as long as I don't have to travel in it.

12. Can you ice skate? Yes I can..used to be pretty good at it too...before all the ankle injuries caused me to put it aside.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? This is difficult because there were so many of them. Even though I was sort of a tomboy when I was young, I loved getting dolls from my grandmother.

14. What’s the most important thing? Staying in the spirt of what Christmas is all about and being grateful for family.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? I always make a mean cherry cheese cake and I admit it's my favorite.

17. What tops your tree? An angel

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving? Giving of course...

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow...

20. Candy canes, Yuck or Yum? Yuck, they should only be used as decorations.

Peace

I'm tagging Heartinsanfrancisco, Claudia, and Ian.
P.S. I made that coconut mounds cake.....and it's simply heaven!!!!!

Chocolate Presents

It must have been Michael C's post over at http://thewonderfulworldofnothing.blogspot.com/ that started this. I went Christmas shopping yesterday for those last minute gifts for people at the office and the Nursing Home and just in case I need something for someone who shows up that I didn't expect. I got everyone chocolate...Belgium chocolate, chocolates from around the world chocolates, chocolate truffles, chocolate covered cookies....I left them at a neighbor's house though for fear I may open them and start to consume them like I did last year. I had to go out and get more too...Gets a little expensive that way if you know what I mean.

(If I have any left over, I'm going to bathe in it). hehehe

I also have this recipe for a Mounds cake (as in sometimes your feel like a nut, sometimes you don't)....I'm going to try and make it this week as a test run....I'll let you know how it comes out.

Twilight Zone Time (DoDoDoDoDoDoDo)

You are The Moon

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.

The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

I got this from E Dog's page...http://ianthealy.blogspot.com/ who got it from someone else...so I'm sharing it ...thought it was accurate for me!

Funday!!!

Your Elf Name Is...

Fuzzy Fluffernutter

You Are Prancer

You are the perfect reindeer, with perfect hooves and perfect flying form.
Why You're Naughty: Because you're Santa's pet, and you won't let anyone show you up.
Why You're Nice: You have the softest fur and the sweetest carrot breath.

Your Christmas is Most Like: A Charlie Brown Christmas

Each year, you really get into the spirit of Christmas.
Which is much more important to you than nifty presents.

What Movie Is Your Christmas Most Like?

Which of Santa's Reindeer Are You?
If you noticed, I didn't say AARRGGHH MONDAY!!! That's because it's really a "Funday" for me. I'm off from work today! Happy Dancing my way to the mall....to finish my Christmas shopping..Yeah I know, but it sure beats being at work. He He!

Black and White

You could hardly see for all the snow,

Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go.

Pull a chair up to the TV set,

"Good Night, David. Good Night, Chet."

Depending on the channel you tuned,

You got Rob and Laura - or Ward and June.

It felt so good. It felt so right.

Life looked better in black and white.

I Love Lucy, The Real McCoys,

Dennis the Menace, the Cleaver boys,

Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Wagon Train,

Superman, Jimmy and Lois Lane.

Father Knows Best, Patty Duke,

Rin Tin Tin and Lassie too,

Donna Reed on Thursday night! --

Life looked better in black and white.

I wanna go back to black and white.

Everything always turned out right.

Simple people, simple lives...

Good guys always won the fights.

Now nothing is the way it seems,

In living color on the TV screen.

Too many murders, too many fights,

I wanna go back to black and white.

In God they trusted, alone in bed, they slept,
A promise made was a promise kept.

They never cussed or broke their vows.

They'd never make the network now.

But if I could, I'd rather be

In a TV town in '53.

It felt so good. It felt so right.

Life looked better in black and white.

I'd trade all the channels on the satellite,

If I could just turn back the clock tonight

To when everybody knew wrong from right.

Life was better in black and white!

It's HAPPY DANCE FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
It's the middle of December and it's 60 degrees in New York! I had to put the fan on last night to sleep!! And you wonder why I'm a little nuts or why I can't get it in my mind that Christmas is right around the corner? It's supposed to be cold out! And of course I'll complain about it when it does get cold. But I'd like a little chill in the air or even a little snow to make it feel like the holidays. Oh well....until then, let's just dance. (and oh, I bought lots more presents yesterday!, Yes, I'm getting there!)

Spirit

I'm so far behind in my christmas shopping it's not funny anymore. I just started yesterday!

And yesterday was the first day I turned on Christmas music in my office. Yeah I've been bah-humbugging up til now. I think the spirit has finally arrived! I hope it stays.

Nonsense

What I want for Christmas:

This is a pure flight of ideas....mumbles, if you will. I saw the movie Happy Feet last night..and loved it! Now I have Happy Feet and it's only Wednesday! (Isn't it?) Damn....I have no holiday spirit ...but I do have a headache. It's supposed to be quiet in work, but it's not. I have nasty work to do and it shouldn't be done during the holidays...(as I've mentioned in the past, I can't tell you what it is or I'd have to kill you). I need to go Christmas shopping! I have great ideas for presents but haven't seen them yet..lol....and don't have time to look. My mom is doing ok., but I miss her mind....(she has Alzheimers). I have my mind and won't miss it when it's gone...and it's going slowly. Oh well...enough of this......Be well.

AARRGGHH MONDAY!

Yes....It's here...my favorite day of the week... The day I long for...(not)...the day I wake up dancing and can't wait to begin...AARRGGHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish they'd invent a pill to make Mondays fun. I've lost all confidence in Michael C, over at The Wonderful World of Nothing. He was supposed to get out there and campaign for changing Mondays into Fundays. Now I'll have to look to the scientists in the pharmaceutical world to invent a Funday Pill. Just think, it could be called...Fundayagra.....indicated to erase the frustration felt when waking up on a Monday and yelling ARRRGGHH and allows you to swell up with pride about going to work.
It's side effects would be: Dancing and singing all the way to work....and smiling all day once your got there. (It may also cause your employer to wonder if you're on some other illegal type drug)... but this one would not show up in a drug test....It would just add a touch of natural happiness..(Yeah Yeah I know there are drugs that do this already, but it was just a thought).

Have a great week!

GRATITUDE 101 Repost from June 28

This is a repost from last June that I felt appropriate to share again.

A fellow blogger recently posted her 100 things she was grateful for. It served to remind me that I used to do a gratitude list every night before I went to sleep, listing only five things on it. It seems that the words “used to” show up in my life a lot lately. Seems I may have forgotten about the present moment and spontaneity. I’ve got to move beyond this “stuck” point in my life….(maybe tomorrow) lol……

In the meantime, my gratitude list, randomly plucked out of my brain as I type along (I’m not going to number them given that I like the randomness of it all): a new day, Mom, coffee, good friends, music (all kinds depending on my mood of the moment, my years spent with hub(good and bad because it added to my essence), my sick sense of humor (it gets me thru the rough times), a good book (the kind again depends on my mood), did I mention coffee?, shower massages!!! ;-) , clean sheets, my job and the oh so nice people I work with, good and lasting friendships, meeting new people and fellow bloggers, on time train schedules, green lights, bright colors, new shoes, new clothes, old jeans and tee shirts, the peace and serenity that hit me maybe twice a year, smiles, kids laughing, the unconditional love of my lil dog, comfortable chairs, memories of Dad, the ability to write this list on this blog with these fingers and this computer, seeing laughter on people’s faces and their eyes lighting up because I’m there and vice versa, cooking, eating out, bbq, the ocean, the mountains, staying in bed on rainy or snowy days, having a bed to stay in, the color purple, the smell of lavender, working in a very nice part of NYC, my funky jewelry, a/c, sleep, ability to exercise, not drinking or smoking anymore, heat in winter, vacations, sunshine, love, moonlight coming thru my bedroom window, sex, makeup, makeup sex, razors, scented candles, dirt roads, snow, shovels, mittens, Seinfeld (speaking of makeup sex), funny movies, computer games, microwave ovens, pedicures, spray on tan, ice cubes, umbrellas, all stores, the ability to have money to purchase things in stores, my mom’s sense of humor (I think she gave me some), my dad’s smile and curly hair, paper clips, Velcro! , delete buttons, fresh mozzarella (orgasmic), sun glasses, cell phone covers with lil straps, light weight brief cases, shit, anything that’s light and lets me ease up on what I have to carry, my hairdresser, body lotion, linen spray, body paint, men, did I mention coffee? And sex? (Why does my mind always come back to coffee and sex?) which leads to my next grateful thing – therapists…lol, big windows, wild curtains, comfy slippers, matching underwear, comfortable bras, raincoats, baseball caps, beach towels, falling leaves, big old trees, butterflies, perfume, vanilla ice cream and the fact that I’m still breathing and appreciating what I have, what I am, and what I can become………”Live well, laugh often, love much”…..

Happy Blog Day to Me

Not only is it Happy Dance Friday BUTTTTTTTTTTTTT.................
.
Today's my blog birthday! One year ago today I started mumbling. Little did I know that I would be here a year later. It has been a good outlet for me. I appreciate that my friend and blog idol, Boondoggled (she hates when I call her my idol) got me started. I had no clue what I would blog about. And I still don't! But if I see something funny I put it here...if a silly poem pops into my head, it's here.....If I feel like crying or whining about something, it's here. And over the course of this year I've met some really special people here in blog land. I've laughed, cried, threw up, got mad, sad, angry, and learned an awful lot, all in the course of reading other blogs.

I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate your blog friendships and thanks for all the wonderful comments that mean a lot to me (well, most of them do anyway).

Joke Time - Smile!

A young man goes into a pharmacy and asks the pharmacist:

"Hello, could you give me condom. My girlfriend has invited me for dinner and I think she is expecting something from me!"

The pharmacist gives him the condom; and as the young man is going out, he returns and tells him: "Give me another condom because my girlfriend's sister is very cute too. She always crosses her legs in a provocative manner when she sees me and I think she expects something from me too."

The pharmacist gives him a second condom; and as the boy is leaving he turns back and says:"After all, give me one more condom because my girlfriend's mom is still pretty cute and when she sees me she always makes allusions...and since she invited me for dinner, I think she is expecting something from me!!"

During dinner, the young man is sitting with his girlfriend on his left, the sister on his right and the mom facing him. When the dad gets there, the boy lowers his head and starts praying:"Dear Lord, bless this dinner...thank you for all you give us...!"

A minute later the boy is still praying: "Thank you Lord for your kindness..."

Ten minutes go on and the boy is still praying, keeping his head down. The others look at each other surprised and his girlfriend even more than the others. She gets close to the boy and tells him in his ear: "I didn't know you were so religious!!!"
The boy replies: "I didn't know your dad was a pharmacist!!!"
Peace

No Clue

It's cold out and I have a head cold. And my head is cold. Cause it's out. And it's not medication that's making me write like this. I just have a flight of ideas here and have absolutely no idea what to blog about today. So I'm writing as my fingers do the typing.....which is scary because I have no clue what's going to come out of this clogged up head of mine. Sometimes when I do this a really great idea spews forth. I don't feel it happening today. Too bad for all you who read this....It may have been great.....but it's not. (no pun intended there..ha ha ha ha).
Have a great day and I hope it's warm where you are!
P.S. Two good things about my day is that I get to see the sun rising when I'm going to work and get to see the sun setting on my way home. It's nice.
Peace

AARRGGHH MONDAY

Time flies, doesn't it? Seems like only yesterday was Sunday. Oh wait, it was! Damn. Monday kind of snuck up on me. Oh well....here I go again....Off to the commute with the lovely and polite people who travel into NYC. I'm ready though. Hope everyone had a great weekend. I'm going to have to come back later to post something amazing and brillant because I'm late for work....you would think I would forego sitting here at my computer and get going wouldn't you? But no...I'm a blogaholic and must put something here...I need help....but I'm not ready to surrender!

TO GO BAGS

We had an evacuation drill at my office on Thurday. We "practice" a lot since we've been in our new location. There's really no humor in it at all, being that we lost many employees on 9/11 and I lost a lot of friends. That being said, I just wanted to share something with you. All of us have been given "Go Bags" to be taken with us every time we have one of these drills. And if it's real emergency, it's our "survival kit". Ha! Here's what's in it:

- A map for the subway (just in case they may be working after a terrrorist attack)
- A map of the bus routes - (if you can catch one fleeing the City)
- A map for New Jersey- (In case you can get there before they lock down the bridges and tunnels)
- One lil tiny teeny pen flash light (good for getting thru the darkness of buildings that are being blown up)
- One plastic whistle - (in case I need to whistle a lil tune to get your attention in the fire before it melts in my mouth)
- One little radio with earphones and batteries (ok maybe this is useful).
- One Triangular bandage 40"x40"x56" (don't know the significance of the measurements, but it was most likely bought from the lowest bidder) I guess that'll do if I sever an arm or leg (I'm short enough).
- One instant ice pack (good for about 5 seconds).
- Five (5) antiseptic towettes. (to cleanse the severed limbs, I suppose.)
- Three (3) band aids, in case the injury is non life threatening.
- 0.9 ounces of bacitracin....(in case the injury is really, really small. at least it won't get infected)
- One survival "wrap" - in case I go into shock cause I'm getting ready to die because I don't have a bigger "GO BAG")
- Two flimsy dust masks (this will help with anthrax inhalations!)
- Two bags of "emergency drinking water" 4.22 fl. oz. each).

Yes, I'm making light of all this....I have to!

The question of the day is: Will I or won't I survive? ;-)
