Peace Wizard

The Wizard Who Watches Over Me" (by Odat)

Yes I am a little artistic. I dabble in stain glass once in a while. Here's a piece I made a while ago and saved because it's my favorite. I move him around to different windows depending on the season and the angle of the sun. You can't really see it in the picture but his eyes are like crystals and the sun shines through them casting different colors into the room.

Prior to taking classes in stain glass making, I often wondered why pieces of stain glass were so expensive. Now I know. It takes lots of time to cut each piece and put together, not to mention the expense of the glass. I always use colors other than what the pattern usually calls for and I travel all over to find the exact color and type of glass I need.

Baby T-Shirts

Baby With Bear I went to a baby shower last week. The presents the Mom-to-be received were a little different. Here's some examples of the little t-shirt onesies she got for the baby to wear. I thought it was pretty amusing. But then again that's just me. ;-)

Ut oh!

I've been slacking in my exercise routine. That's why I thought it would be a great idea to mow the lawns and cut the hedges myself this weekend. I'd work up a good sweat and loose some of those cheeseburger and hotdog pounds I may have put on and into my body.

I'd known about one spot in the hedges that produced a poison ivy like plant last year. I killed it dead (last year). So not seeing it wedged in the hedge line I proceeded to pull out all kinds of weed like vines sticking out before tackling the vroom vroom of the electric hedge cutter. (yeah I know how to use it without cutting the cord).
Ok.....I did it...both lawns and the hedge.....nice!!! A lil sweaty but a good sweat. At least that was out of the way and I felt like I'd made up for at least three days of exercise.

Fast forward to the next day.
Ok so I got bit by some bugs on my arm. That's why I'm itching. No problem.

Later that day.
Damn if that doesn't look like poisen ivy spreading up my arm!!!

Still later....
How the hell did I get it on my butt check??????????????????

Calamine lotion, cortisone cream........keeping it cool. Letting it get air? What am I supposed to do???? (maybe I'll just go to a nude beach). ;-)

(p.s. Monday I said the hell with the work around the house and made it to the beach!)
(I took that pic at the beach with my special effects mode on my camera phone.)

We Remember

Hippie 1

Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on 30 May 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York in 1873. By 1890 it was recognized by all of the northern states.

Did you just read that???? New York. Good ole New York. Somehow that makes me feel better that the NY Yankees are in last place! (not really, but it sounds good)

So, since it's Fleet Week here in NYC, I think I'll go out and hug a soldier to thank them for their service! (and say a prayer for all those who gave their lives.)

Hop scotch, school's out, skates
with keys to keep them on.

Swimming pools, beaches, sand...
And a ride in the car on Sundays.

Lemon aid, iced tea, baseball games
Carnivals coming to town!

"Dancing in the Streets", "Up On the Roof"
"Under the Boardwalk", "Summer in the City"
Playing on the radio.

Mussels, clams, lobster,
Dads drinking beer,

Sunburns, peeling, Noxema,
Moms playing bingo on Fridays.

Playing outside,
No computers.
We survived!!!

Oh..
at the end,
Reading books for school...
Hating it.

The dreaded shopping
For the return to school clothes....
Summer ends.

OH NOOOOO!!!!

I'm a little upset about this, although my lil Snot dog is not part of the recall.

Dog Breeders Issue Massive Recall Of 07 Pugs

The Onion

Dog Breeders Issue Massive Recall Of '07 Pugs

WASHINGTON, DC—While pug owners are accustomed to chronic dog malfunction, the latest animals are prone to more than the usual overheating, seizures, and joint failure.

WASHINGTON, DC—Citing centuries of quality- control issues that have resulted in chronic unreliability, cascading system failures, and even total unit shutdown, the American Pug Breeders Association announced a recall Monday of all pugs produced between February 2006 and the present day.

We apologize wholeheartedly to any and all owners of the 2007 pug," APBA director Betty McAndrews said at a press conference, standing before a table where 10 defective pugs were displayed. "While pug owners are accustomed to dog malfunction, the latest animals are prone to more problems than just the usual joint failures, overheating, seizures, chronic respiratory defects, and inability to breed without assistance. The latest model pug is simply not in any way a viable dog."
According to the APBA's online recall notice, pugs produced in the specified period are at "moderate to high risk" for convulsive respiratory failure, soft palate suppuration, corneal ulcers leading to sudden deliquescence of the eyeballs, catastrophic lung collapse, ingrown ribs, diabetes, patellar luxation, encephalitis, Lou Gehrig's pug's disease, impacted hips, neck dysplasia, tracheal fissures, morbid obesity, cranial arthritis, and leakage of the anal sacs. In addition, due to strong allergic reactions to almost all medications, 97 percent of pugs are untreatable.

Recalled Pugs
This week, the APBA has begun to send out recall information and cardboard mailing boxes to registered pug owners, who are asked to place their '07 pug inside the box, seal it, and, if they wish, punch air holes in the top and sides. Owners must then put the box inside an airtight heavy-duty plastic bag, affix a postage-paid mailing label, and drop it off at any U.S. post office.
In order to ensure that all '07 pugs are taken out of circulation, the organization is also providing a complimentary on-site disposal service to pug owners who are otherwise unable to participate in the recall.
"We'd prefer to destroy all units here at our headquarters—we already have the chimneys going day and night," McAndrews said. "But the very young and the very old seem rather reluctant to send in their pugs, despite all of their well-documented flaws. To protect our reputation as pug breeders, we're going to spend the next month visiting individual homes and putting these dogs out of everyone's misery."
For Mason City, IA pug owner Lee Kraus, the APBA's announcement comes as a complete vindication after years of contending with defective pugs. In the past five years alone, Kraus has attempted to return three of the dogs to his local breeder, and each time has been denied either a refund or an exchange for a more reliable make, such as a Shih Tzu.
"I'm glad to see the APBA is finally taking responsibility for this disaster," Kraus said. "Governor Fattpants gave me insomnia with his constant snorting, and Boiler ruined my bedroom set when he went into total renal shutdown."
Cindy Anderson of the Sarasota, FL–based Pug Owners Group shares Kraus's frustration with the highly developed breed.
"After trying and failing to nurse Princess Kevin through hemorrhagic lupus and Boatsley through a hysterical tubal pregnancy, I don't know if I'll ever own another pug," Anderson said. "It's not worth the hassle."
"Oh, who am I kidding? They're just so cute!" she added. "I love their adorable snorting and their funny little waddle. We're going to call our next one Lopez."

Meme Again

Meme from Shadow of Diogenes:

(1) What is one excuse that you use a lot ?

I really try not to use excuses, I usually just tell it like it is. But if I have to pick one, it would be "Damn, I wonder what kind of accident happened today to back up that traffic again!"

(2) What is your favorite flavor of ice cream ? Just plain, pure vanilla.

(3) Do you remember your first sweetheart's name ?
Yes, it was Tommy
(4) Finish this sentence - "I would really like to ..."
live in Tahiti, parachute out of a plane, have my own live in chef.

(5) If you could make one wish what would it be ?
To stay young and healthy forever...but know what I know now.

Paul had this meme posted and I thought it was rather interesting and since it's a rather easy one, I'm tagging all of you.

Snakes and Cactus...Bad, Bad, Bad

This is a true story.

I know a person named "Bad". That's Bad in a good way, by the way. Not only is she bad, but she's a lil crazy. That's crazy in a good way. She just moved to Arizona. She likes the heat...
so she says (more power to her for that!). Her front yard is filled with cacti and other dessert thingys. The wildlife abounds. Lizards and snakes and cacti, oh my. Seems like trouble always seems to find her too. See that cactus picture...she managed to back into it one day. I think she thought it was a chair.....was picking out those lil pricks from her ass for months. Then, just the other day...a rattle snake was in her garage.......and she done up and killed the thing!!!! Yup, that's the pic of the snake....sorry PETA, but I've ordered my shoes already...as long as she dyes them purple!!!!

So we'll see what future trouble finds her....and when I get the pics, you'll be the first to know!

Important Things To Know

How E-mail is Like a Penis:

Some folks have it, some don't. Those who have it would be devastated if it were ever cut off.

They think that those who don't have it are somehow inferior. They think it gives them power.
They are wrong.

Those who don't have it may agree that it's an nifty toy, but think it's not worth the fuss that those who do have it make about it. Still, many of those who don't have it would like to try it.

It can be up or down. It's more fun when it's up, but it makes it hard to get any real work done.

In the long-distant past, its only purpose was to transmit information considered vital to the survival of the species. Some people still think that's the only thing it should be used for, but most folks today use it for fun most of the time.

Once you've started playing with it, it's hard to stop. Some people would just play with it all day if they didn't have work to do.

It provides a way to interact with other people. Some people take this interaction very seriously, others treat it as a lark. Sometimes it's hard to tell what kind of person you're dealing with until it's too late.

If you don't apply the appropriate protective measures, it can spread viruses.

It has no brain of its own. Instead, it uses yours. If you use it too much, you'll find it becomes more and more difficult to think coherently.

We attach an importance to it that is far greater than its actual size and influence warrant.

If you're not careful what you do with it, it can get you in big trouble.

It has its own agenda. Somehow, no matter how good your intentions, it will warp you behavior.

Later you may ask yourself "why on earth did I do that?"

It has no conscience and no memory. Left to its own devices, it will do the same damn dumb things it did before.

Zombie Land

Crowded trains, crowded streets, crowded roadways, people not paying attention to anything around them but their cell phones or ipods. What the hell is going on in this world? No one looks at anyone, no one says hi or good morning...it's Zombie world in NYC! That's right, zombies., pod people, all walking around connected to the mothership of technology by white earpieces or blue tooth ear thingys (which by the way, are just so not fashionable!).....we've turned into a science fiction movie except this is real life. It really gets to me sometimes.

I was on the train yesterday squished in like a sardine in a can. Some woman turns around to me to tell me quit pushing....I yell..."yeah, as soon as this asshole stops pushing me"....I usually don't loose it, but yesterday was one of those days. I'm the type of person that shows everything on my face, so anyone who looked at me yesterday knew to stay the eff away from me.

(I should have bought those monkey shoes and kicked some monkey ass!)

Peace?

Happy Mom's Day...

My mom is a neverending song in my heart of comfort, happiness, and being. I may sometimes forget the words but I always remember the tune. ~Graycie Harmon

My Mom has been diagonosed with dementia/a lil bit of Alhzheimers going on too. Her mind is like a five year old child. But she's happy! She laughs, she smiles, she giggles, and she sings and dances! That makes me smile and sing and dance. My grown up Mom has more or less disappeared and now she's my child. I have no regrets though, because whatever I needed to say to Mom had been said hundreds of times to her when her other mind was still here. She knows she was loved by her children and she knows she is now loved by this lady who visits her every day bringing chocolate and laughter.

Prize Time

Picture this from your room right on the water!

The panel of experts has finally given me the results of the contest!!! You're going to love it! Drum roll please....... (for those who do not know what I'm talking about go to Tuesday's post).
ALL OF YOU ARE GOING ON A TRIP TO TAHITI!!!!!
TA DA!! (a virtual one that is!)

You know me, I try to keep everyone happy.

We'll all have great views of the ocean! The women will, of course, have their own private cabana boys, and the men too can have their own cabana "girls". I'm coming along too, because you all know how I feel about Tahiti. And we're all going to have our own private hot tubs looking out over the ocean. I'm not sure if Matt-Man can come tho...I don't thing he tried hard enough to guess, but I understand he's busy with "tying up loose ends" (don't know whose) this week, I just may give him a break(since he lets me play with his monkey). Bee certainly can come along because a) there'll be chocolate in Tahiti and b) No birds scare people there. Special mention goes to Deb for her "uncool Spiderman underroos" interpretation (I really think she's into underroos! ;-d ) and to Reflecting Pool for her "...urbanization of the rural areas through suberbia, militarily......." comment. ( I bet that gave her a headache thinking up that one!) because Micheal's mind exploded after his very eloquent thoughts that the video had something to do with the Beatles' Yellow Submarine (then how come it was in black and white?) or Monty Python! Sarge just thought it sucked....lol (he calls them as he see them, I guess from his military training)...Jenn thought it may have to do with a nursery rhyme (if it did, I never heard of it, so therefore it doesn't exist ;-). Claudia thought it was cool, (that's probably because she is). Danielle just smiled...(she does that a lot). Poor CEO couldnt see it. (send good vibes over to him, get well wishes too). I believe Sobriquet got pretty close to the real meaning: "....a diddly ah dah da dah". And 'C' who thinks it's a "snooze button's" revenge. (good one too).

So there you have it. Let's get hopping then.....off to Tahiti!

I'll get back to commenting on those blogs I read regularly tomorrow...I've been running around like crazy the past two days...haven't sat still for five minutes...
Peace

LaLaLaLaLaLa

Ok folks, I will be back a little later to announce the winners in yesterday's contest. The Panel of experts are taking a little longer than expected. What? You didn't know there was a contest??? Well duh, go back to yesterday's post. It's still not too late.....and you'll be sooo excited with the prizes!!!
In the meantime, here, read some comics while you're waiting.

Oops

I feel a little bad, but not that bad. While at work I was forced to attend a ceremony of sorts. I really hate this protocal stuff and I went reluctantly. I walked in the back way and stood by the wall all the way back from the front as one could get. I leaned against the wall. I was trying to look cool. The "master of ceremonies" was announcing awards. All the big shots were sitting up in front, nodding and smiling (geeze), when all of a sudden the lights went out. All the brown noses went looking for the source of the outage, turning switches on and off. Nothing. These were timer lights so even if you flicked the switch back on, it would take a while before the lights came back up.

It was then I realized I had leaned on the switch and accidently switched off the lights. Oops.
I turned into one of the brown noses and started looking around to see where the problem was coming from. Then, while everyone else was trying to figure out the problem, I very quietly exited the room.

Peace
