Happy Monkey Monday! May your basket be full! :-)

I saw this little award at A Life with A View,
and loved it! "Shine On" is one of my favorite sayings! So I thought it appropriate to pass this along to all of you because you've all been my shining stars of late and my wish for all of you is to

3 Question Meme

Paul, from Shadow of Diogenes, tagged me with this three question tag:

Q1)  What is your favorite novel ?

(Q2)  Who is your favorite author ?

(Q3)  Do you prefer fiction or non fiction ?

I honestly have to admit that I really don't have a favorite novel.  I can say that the novel that impressed me the most when I was young was Little Women.   And I always read the Nancy Drew Detective series. Also the Hardy Boys.  lol.

Later in life I read every book I got my hands on....both fiction and non fiction.  I think I've read every self help book ever published.  When I was in school I loved philosophy.

I love to read and read lots of books now.  Mostly fiction.  I pick my books through friend's recommendations or if it looks interesting, I buy it.   This is how I am with music too.  Don't ask me who sang it or who wrote it, if it sounds good to me, that's enough.

Wordzzle #3

Raven sponsors Wordrzzzle every weekend.  She offers up the words and we make up the stories!

The ten words for this week are:
Fabulous, aristocrat, tricycle, soft summer breeze, cat litter, silver-tongued devil, curtain rod, lilacs, Abraham Lincoln, garbage can.

Here's my third one.  I'm just having fun with it.

"Simply fabulous", Meek the aristocrat squealed as he eyed his brand new purple and pink tricycle!  You see, he couldn't ride a two wheeled bike nor could he drive a car. (Not to mention the fact that cars weren't even invented yet.)

He hopped on and pedaled away, allowing the soft summer breeze to kiss his face.  All of a sudden his bike hit a patch in the rode that set him sailing head over heals over the handle bars but landing in a soft, scratchy patch of cat liter???   Lifting himself up and checking that nothing was broken, he thought to himself "What the heck is this? Why is cat liter being used to pave the road???"  He looked around to see if he somehow took the wrong turn and wound up in the middle of a cat farm or something. His attention was drawn to his mangled tricycle and he became very sad.  "What am I supposed to do now?" he thought.

All of a sudden he heard a hissing laugh and turned around and lo and behold, there stood Abraham Lincoln.  Meek thought it was strange that he was carrying a curtain rod and was dressed up like a silver tongued devil!  But hey, stranger things have happened, like being stopped short and thrown in the air by a road of cat liter.

Meek asked Mr. Abe if he was going to help him get out this mess.   Abe threw his head back and laughed, then pointed over to the garbage can.  You see, his curtain rod was really a magic wand and when he pointed it at the can thousands of lilacs began to bloom!

Abe told Meek that if he took those lilacs and placed them on top of the cat liter, a new road would appear.

So that's what Meek did and sure enough, the road turned back into one that was smooth and tricyclable. (I made that word up).   He was told to sprinkle the lilacs on his trike and that too came back to life.  Meek was thrilled and turned to thank Abe...but he was gone.  All that was left was the magic curtain rod!  Meek took the rod and placed it over his handle bars and rode all the way back to his village.

The villagers rejoiced and everyone lived happily ever after.

Ladders and Me

Remember a while back I told you about my carpenter bees?  Well, the "bee control people", while they were up on the roof, informed me that my gutters were really gunky and should probably be cleaned out.   So being the independent person I am, I thought I'd have a look. I also thought I could take a hose and swish out all that gunk myself.

So I take a ladder and plant it firmly in the flower bed. (yeah yeah, shaddup).  That's where the spout was that I needed to blast the water down!   I climb the ladder with the hose over my shoulder.  I take a look in the gutter and see that yes indeed, they certainly were gunky!  I shoot the hose down the spout thinking that everything will now just flow out.  Easy, right?  Wrong!
But what do I know?  I've never done this in my life.  And of course, I don't ask advice or even look it up on the internet as to how to go about this.   Ok, so now I think I better call the professionals in.  I conceded that I can't handle this one and start to descend the ladder (the one I had firmly planted in the flower bed).  The ladder starts to tilt to the right.  Uh oh.  I throw the hose down and think quickly!  slowly tilting.....Shit!    I get down to the third rung from the bottom and jump!  It was a wide jump too because I didn't want to land in the flower bed and ruin the flowers so I tried to jump over them.  I tripped over the edge of the flower bed and did a slow roll into the bushes.   I banged up my knee a little, but I don't think there's any major damage.

How do I feel about all this?  I feel like a dope and now know that I should probably call the professionals first!

And how was your day?

The Fountain of Youth

I'm getting tired of the ads on my yahoo mail that say I can look like I did in 1998!!!
You know them...you pass your mouse over the wrinkled lady that looks like she's 109 and all of sudden, she's 18 again!!!!! ( They never have men in those ads....I wonder why, don't they get wrinkled??? Ha, we all know they do.)

Well, I've been rubbing my mouse all over my face every single day since I've seen that ad. And let me tell you, it just doesn't work!!! That's right...nope, no way Jose. I still look the same....not that I look all that bad to begin with, but there's a few crows feet I'd like to erase. I'm just letting you know so y'all don't fall for it. Don't even bother.

I'm writing my Congressman....(oh wait, he's being brought up on charges)....

It's not Tahiti, but it'll do until I get there. I like to walk by the water. It gives me peace. This is a beach not too far from my house that I'm blessed to have friends live near and get there every once in a while.

Face It

I was reading an article in the Sunday paper and came across an article about a site that tells you what people think of your looks. Facestat.com is a Web site that sells "market research for the individual" and it is based solely on looks. So I sent them a recent picture of me (from my retirement party) to get an assessment of what the average person thinks of my looks. They warned that it could get brutal and is not for the thin skinned.... At my age, my skin is pretty thick.
Here's what a panel of judges said about my photo:
describe
glowing, partied, ...
attractive
not bad
ethnicity
Caucasian / White
political affiliation
liberal
gender
female
trustworthy
maybe untrustworthy
age
42

Here's some other words used: Loopy, happy, bad-hair, wildwoman, partied, fibromyalgia(LMAO), curly sue, bright, needit, firey, trashy, goofy, ferocious, glowing, creepy, overdone, red, loud.

Well, I'm not liberal, and I am trustworthy, I don't have fibromyalgia, I do have curly, red and big hair (I just go with what God gave me). I can be loopy and goofy. I don't think I'm creepy. I do needit. I do glow at times ;-). I am firey and look out if you mess with me I am ferocious, Overdone? I don't know. If they're talking about my jewelry then yes definitely. And I did party in my day. BUT THE GREATEST THING THEY SAID WAS I LOOKED 42!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 42! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Read that again....42!!!! (I'm not 42). So say anything you want but call me 42 and I'll love ya!!!!!

Peace

(P.S. I'm going to see Jimmy Buffet tonight!!! )

Jabba the Cat

For all those who have cats: Be advised that I used to be the proud owner of Jabba. He was a great cat! I adopted him from one of my friends who couldn't keep him and my hub fell in love with him. Jabba used to "jab" (box) with hub. He was a big, strong cat and we both loved him.
Unfortunately, Jabba took ill, got diabetes and had congestive heart failure! He was only 7 years old. We missed him a lot. Now Snotdog is here! ;-)

Wordzzle

Raven, from "Views from Raven's Nest" has offered up a challenge that she calls "wordzzles".  She gives us between 8 and 10 words/phrases and we are asked to create a small but coherent paragraph using each and every word.  This is my second attempt at this.  It's fun!

The words for this week's 10-word challenge are:
Spaghetti
Larkspar
Prilosec
Roaring lion
adament
Green green grass of home
paradox
filibuster
face cream
trout fishing

Mr. Crow was getting really angry now. (yes crows get angry).  He flew down and swooped the spaghetti off of the plate of the two young lovers at the outdoor cafe, flew with it all the way home, only to get it all tangled up in the larkspur blooming under his tree!  Damn, where was his Prilosec when he needed it?

Mrs. Crow was adamant about having spaghetti tonight.  So much so she scarred every bird from the tree by screeching like a roaring lion:  "Hey Crowdaddy...I see you've gotten our dinner all tangled up in that thar larkspur again"! Her filibuster on the subject made Mr. Crow reach for his Prilosec again!

"Oh", Mr. Crow lamented, "What I wouldn't give to see the green, green grass of home once more". "Wait a minute", he thought, "wouldn't I'd rather see the green, green leaves of the trees?"  Such a paradox!   This got him thinking back to his youth, watching the humans trout fishing along the shore and waiting to pounce on their catch.  He sighed in contentment.

He was suddenly snapped out of his daydream by a face-creamed Mrs. Crow demanding her spaghetti dinner!!!!

The End

A Single Rose

We used to have 12 rose bushes around the yard, but due to circumstances beyond our control we had to let them go. Hub used to cut them and bring them into the house each week. We had every color under the rainbow. Some of them died from disease, the others we had to pull out because we wanted the room for something else. Roses take a lot of work to keep them free from disease and because of time constraints and work and illness etc, we decided to give them up. Except for one lil scraggly one in the front. We thought it was going to die, but it just keeps on giving.

Here's the first bud getting ready to burst. When I saw it I smiled, then cried. (that's what I do lately as you all know). Each year, hub would go out and snip the very first rose and place it in a bud vase and leave it on the table for me. Every year!!! I've had a lot of first roses over time and this bud is my reminder of his love.
