Hawk Hawk

I wish I had my camera....or I wish I was there to see it from the beginning.
I opened the gate to the backyard.......to let Snotdog run in the snow.   It took my mind a minute to grasp what was happening.    A hawk type bird was de-feathering a large bird (one that he most likely killed I'm assuming)  and when I opened the gate he grabbed the carcus in his talons and flew away!!!   Was a pretty big bird too that he carted off!  I went over to the feathers to see if I could determine what type of bird he killed....I don't really know....but judging by the feathers, it was  a pretty big one....Not only did he leave the feathers, but he left the beak too!

It's nature taking it's course.  It didn't gross me out or anything.  Kinda made me glad to see that the wild life is still around (not the people kind either). hehe.  Hub would have been delighted to see that too.

Peace

When snow is on the ground the hawks around here clean-up on field mice, and other rodents.. their vision is incredible! Glad you understand Nature has it's ways...

I see things like that quite often at the Swamp. It is teeming with wildlife and every creature has its purpose under Heaven.

I hope you and Snotdog have a terrific Tuesday, Odat!

Hawks are my good omen animal. I seem to see them whenever I need a boost.

The Hawk is a beautiful bird, you may not know that when I was a kid there was a bounty paid for killing them, at least in georgia, because they would kill your chickens.

It's a blessing to be able to see something like this. Wonderful.

We have a sparrow hawk that visits on a regular basis. I know it's because we feed the sparrows. They are indeed beautiful and very powerful.

Have a terrific day honey. Big hug and lotsa lovies. :)

We have a pair of large hawks here, yet we still have a rabbit family in the yard. They must have better targets. Have a great day!

things like that do sort of gross me out, but on the other hand I admire nature and its beauty, however raw at times.

Observing such a sight is a gift it itself ... as is sharing it with others. The balance of nature is something all need to appreciate.
Hugs and blessings,

Nature is savage and beautiful all at once. I sometimes wish man was as logical and civilized....

Bummer you didn't have the camera at the ready. Cool story though.

We see plenty of hawks here in the 'burbs, just loitering overhead looking for anything with the right fur content for a tasty meal. We tell our kitties that they really do want to stay indoors...that our furballs are just not smart or fast enough to avoid the hawk's talons. Even if they look back at us with a felines sense of skepticism...

Ralph's right. Kitties stay indoors!!
Unless I can interest them in a car ride. haha

I agree with you it's great to see that wildlife is alive and well all around us. Sorry the camera wasn't available. I hate when that happens!

Excellent! Being where we humans are in the food chain, I think it important to be reminded that there is a food chain beyond the local grocery store.

Witnessing Nature is so comforting, even when it's bloody, because it never changes. It is not dependent upon politics or wealth or education, it is reassuringly there in the present moment, and helps us to understand that we, too, should strive to be as much as possible.

It is moments like this that connect us to our higher selves and to each other. And I also believe it was a good omen for you to be there in that moment.

We watched a bee kill a spider last summer, it was really cool to watch. I was too amazed at what I was watching to go get a camera!

Why do we never have the camera when we really need it? Bummer, but keep the beak!

Casdok said...

Yes shame about the camera. Must have been quite a sight.

Some birds freak me out - especially vultures. They are really ugly.

Nature being nature. It's the cycle of life for sure.
