The Nice Stranger

I wrote this awhile ago for Flash Fiction 55 (a story in 55 words). This one, however is not fiction.

The Nice Stranger

She sits now and smiles.
Sings too.
Doesn't know to who or why.

She even knows my name.
Asks me the same questions,
over and over again.
It's ok though. I answer,
over and over again.
She's my child now, as I was hers.

Mom has Alzheimers.

Peace

I do remember reading this when you first posted it.

I saw part of Maria Shriver's testimony on Alzheimer s today...I can imagine you have some of the same experiences.

sending you warm prayers.

My wife and I cared for her aunt for 5 years when she had Alzheimers. I hear you, and remember....

Thanks for your caring comments everyone....but ya know, Mom is really very happy...she's always singing and wants very much to dance too....lol....she's not bedridden...her digression is slow...so as long as she's happy, I'm happy.

This is beautiful, Odat.

And it breaks my heart for both of us.

Alzheimers is such a tough disease, my grandmother has it, but is still in the early stages.

Sorry about your mom. It must be tough for you but remember that your mom is happy in her own way.

Alzheimers has hit members of my father's side of the family. It's a thief. (hugs)

I'm glad your mother is happy, despite that horrible disease. It must be nice to have her singing.
