A Single Rose

We used to have 12 rose bushes around the yard, but due to circumstances beyond our control we had to let them go. Hub used to cut them and bring them into the house each week. We had every color under the rainbow. Some of them died from disease, the others we had to pull out because we wanted the room for something else. Roses take a lot of work to keep them free from disease and because of time constraints and work and illness etc, we decided to give them up. Except for one lil scraggly one in the front. We thought it was going to die, but it just keeps on giving.

Here's the first bud getting ready to burst. When I saw it I smiled, then cried. (that's what I do lately as you all know). Each year, hub would go out and snip the very first rose and place it in a bud vase and leave it on the table for me. Every year!!! I've had a lot of first roses over time and this bud is my reminder of his love.

Oh my gosh, now I'm crying! Isn't it funny how a simple thing can touch a memory we have tucked away and overwhelm us.

The rose is lovely, of course, but the meaning in it for you is what is truly beautiful.

How that rosebush keeps surviving is a lot like how you keep going. Strength, love and determination.

Peace and hugs to you, Odat.

the rose made me teary and the quote made me outright cry.

we have a scraggly old rose bush out front. she just popped up out of nowhere the year after we moved in, none of the neighbors remember roses ever being there so I decided Nana was saying hello

That scrawny rose bush is tough enough to survive in NYC, yet offers a beautiful flower. Tough but tender, a nice combination...

Beautiful post. It made me smile, then cry. I have a yellow rose bush that I like to think that my Grandpa keeps alive. He loved yellow roses. Everything else around it is dead. I never do anything with the bush, but every year it thrives. :)
