HDF AND THE "G" WORD

Wow...IT'S HAPPY DANCE FRIDAY already????????? All I can say is YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!

Not only did this week just fly by I hadn't even realized we're in October!!! (I missed paying some bills on the first, and I've never done that...I said it was a crazy week, but I didn't realize I've been in the Twilight Zone too)....geeze I have to do something with myself.....

And guess what???? I've found a dance that begins with "G"!!!!

The GAVOTTE!!!!!

Wikepedia describes the gavotte (also gavot or gavote) originated as a French folk dance, taking its name from the Gavot people of the Pays de Gap region of Dauphiné, where the dance originated. It is notated in 4/4 or 2/2 time and is of moderate tempo. J.-M. Guilcher’s study of the gavotte in Brittany (1963) revealed great variety in modern practice, especially in the type of steps used, floor patterns and formations and musical accompaniment. Gavottes in some areas are accompanied by singing, with a soloist alternating either with a group or with another soloist; in other areas gavottes are accompanied by instruments such as the violin, drum, bagpipe or a kind of shawm. (Shawm????? not going there! At least not now!!! I'll save that for later down the alphabet, but it sure sounds interesting!!! ;-)

This is what I found really interesting because I hadn't realized that this word was in
Carly Simon's song You're So Vain. It includes the lyric "You had one eye in the mirror as you watched yourself gavotte", in this context it can be taken to mean a pretentious or egotistical style of dancing. (and I always thought she was saying "as you watched yourself go by"!)

Sound like those pretentious Pay De Gapians had a good ole time in their day.!

Have a great weekend!!! AND DON'T FORGET TO DANCE!!!
Peace

Ok, I was completely into your post and HDF until I got to the Carly Simon You're So Vain part. I also swore it was as your watched yourself go by. I've even teased vain family members for doing the same thing.

Now I hope I can relearn the new lyrics. I had always heard that the song was about Mick Jagger, which is extremely ironic because Mick sings backup. I have since come to learn that it's about Warren Beattie. And then I found out he's not "going by" the mirror? All the foundations of my life are crashing around me!!!

There had better still be a Santa Claus and Great Pumpkin!!!

HDF to you and enjoy the weekend. I'll be picking up the pieces of my shattered beliefs.

Wow! I also thought the lyrics were "as you watched yourself go by." It makes sense.

Carly had a relationship with Beatty before she married JT. It used to be a kind of in thing to know that Mick was on backup in that song.

To gavotte or not, that is the question.

Have a stress-free weekend.

Pax (but not on all your houses)

All the best! ~M
So glad you had fun with the game. I am not one to send out a mass e-mail like that but I was having so much fun I had to pass it out! Forgive me? ~M
